To our readers: A look back, and ahead. With thanks for your support in our first year
As you’re wrapping gifts, trimming trees and lighting menorahs in the coming days, we at the Center for Illinois Politics wanted to thank you for your interest and support as we get ready to mark our first full year of connecting people to politics.
What a year it’s been, with the historic election of Chicago’s first openly gay, African-American female mayor, the legalization of recreational marijuana, the passage of a ballot question asking voters to consider changing the state’s income tax structure, and an ever widening federal corruption probe of Illinois’ legendary Democratic machine. That’s just to name a few.
Through it all, we’ve aimed to take a deep dive into the data, looking at issues on both a macro- and micro-level, putting Illinois’ historic, bold and yes, often embarrassing political news into a national context for you. There are many options for news out there, we’re well aware, so we remain dedicated to providing a novel, useful, graphics-driven approach.
With the help of the AARP, we spent time compiling a list of Illinoisans top concerns - from a possible shift to a progressive income tax, to recreational marijuana legalization, school equity, restructuring and oversight, gambling and pension funding - then building our story schedule to reflect them.
And we developed a truly unique Campaign Cash tracker - a one stop shop that helps you take a streamlined spin through campaign funds’ available cash, contribution sources and expenditures, without the headache of sifting through various boards of elections’ pages.
We’ve been thrilled to see our hard work noted in Capitol Fax, Politico, Crain’s, WVON, WGN, the Illinois Radio Network and the Chicago Tribune.
So much of that is due to your continued interest, your feedback, your praise and criticism.
As we look to 2020, we’re focused on growing and continuing to change for the better, and cementing a place in the state’s political scene.
Many blessings to you and yours this holiday season.
We are so thankful for your support.
Our best,
