School equity, restructuring and oversight

Education in Illinois is at a crossroads in several key areas. There's a push for Chicago Public Schools' to move to an elected school board, reversing a mayoral appointment system that's been in place for more than 30 years. Funding for higher education has also been declining steadily, as has enrollment at school's throughout the state's university system. And there's an ongoing conversation about how to ensure equity from the poorest school districts to the richest ones in the state, from urban to rural areas.
