CHICAGO - A group of former lawmakers known for reaching across the aisle in Springfield have formed a new organization that aims to make Illinois political data more accessible and easily digestible to the public.
Former Democratic state Sen. Susan Garrett of Lake Forest and Republican Sen. John Millner of Elmhurst have founded the nonprofit, nonpartisan Center for Illinois Politics.
The Center’s primary function is the development of a freely accessible website that deals with numerous forms of political data in one place, crunching the numbers on campaign finance and political trends, as well as providing educational tools to help residents become better informed voters.
The site will feature several nonpartisan, data-based articles each week, written by journalists and reviewed by a bipartisan board that includes Garrett, Millner, former Democratic state Sen. Jeff Schoenberg of Evanston, GOP Rep. Suzi Bassi of Palatine, former 10th District Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Seals, University of Illinois Chicago Political Science Professor Christopher Z. Mooney, radio host Maze Jackson and others. The first of these articles takes a deep dive into the fundraising done by the women of color who are making history by dominating the Chicago Mayor’s race.
"The Center for Illinois Politics will be a one-stop shop for a variety of political information and ways to learn more about candidates and elections across the state," Garrett said.
